Astra House Publicity and Marketing Intern
Astra House is seeking a publicity intern for the winter/spring 2026 season. This position offers an opportunity to learn about the work that goes into marketing and publicity for literary fiction and nonfiction through hands-on work setting up and executing publicity campaigns and marketing strategies.
We are looking for an intern who has a passion for literature and a desire to learn about the book publishing industry. The candidate will work directly with publicity and marketing staff to support their work, bring new ideas, and gain experience and knowledge of publishing. No previous experience in book publishing is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing social media posts and posting across platforms
- Assisting in administrative and office tasks, including specialized mailings
- Maintaining and updating publicity and marketing databases
- Help in managing internal systems and rolling out marketing campaigns
- Researching and developing title-specific media lists
- Developing pitches for specific titles
- Support with author tours: researching bookstores, creating and maintaining author itineraries
- Submitting galleys to trade and long-lead publications
- Researching and submitting to literary grants, awards, and festivals
- Influencer research and assisting with the Astra influencer program
- Sitting in on Astra House publicity and marketing meetings
Hours:
- Part-time, 20–25 hours/week, from January–June
- Paid $17/hour
- This is a hybrid position requiring 2–3 days in-office each week. Applicants must live within commuting distance from our Manhattan office.
We are looking for an intern with:
- Strong copywriting capabilities, a keen eye for detail, and clear communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong interest in learning the ins and outs of book publicity through hands-on experience
- Comfort with graphic design on Canva
- Familiarity with Instagram, X, Facebook, and Bluesky and willingness to learn MailChimp.
