Celebrating Spirit of the Wood and 25 Years of Green Rider

Post by: Erin Casey

It’s been a WILD RIDE!

For the past 25 years, New York Times bestselling author Kristen Britain has delighted fans with her GREEN RIDER fantasy series. Spanning 8 books (and counting), GREEN RIDER follows the tale of Karigan G’ladheon as she goes from expelled student, to donning the golden-winged horse brooch of a dying Rider, and unwittingly binding her life and duty to king, country, and the royal messengers called the Green Riders. Rife with magic, adventure, romance, and yes, even Ghost Kitty, the series leaves fans chomping at the bit for more.

On November 7th, SPIRIT OF THE WOOD launches, taking readers back in time to discover the history of fan favorite Lieutenant-Rider Laren Mapstone. The book not only tells a thrilling tale, it’s accompanied by gorgeous art hand drawn by Britain herself!

The books aren’t the only things that breathe life into the world of the Green Riders. Devoted fans, dubbing themselves, “Riders,” share their love for Britain’s series through cosplay, fan art, and music! Together, they’ve raised funds to produce two book soundtracks, with the third, THE HIGH KING’S TOMB, currently in production. At the photoshoot for the soundtrack’s companion art book, fans showed off their modeling, costume, prop, and photography skills.

And they certainly heeded the call! Check out these gorgeous behind-the-scenes shots, including one of their many hilarious TikToks!

The fandom also helped compile videos featuring details from over the years in honor of the 25th anniversary.

What an incredible way to bring a community together, and for them to be able to share the love and whimsy they have for this exciting fantasy series.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Kristen Britain recently announced a collaboration with Texas A&M University’s Cushing Memorial Library and Archives on an exhibit! While details are still forthcoming, the event will be held on April 6th & 7th, 2024.

Congratulations to Kristen Britain and her Riders! Here’s to many more years of GREEN RIDER books, soundtracks, and fandom friendships!
