Go Back to School with These Titles from Kane Press!

Written by Kerry McManus, Marketing Director

As a children’s book publisher, we naturally have LOTS of books that are terrific for young readers during this time of year. This blog post will focus on titles from our imprint Kane Press. With topics ranging from STEM to where our food comes from to financial literacy, these books will equip students—from PreK to middle grade, and beyond—with necessary knowledge (and a lot of fun reading!) as they prep for a successful academic year.

EUREKA! The Biography of an Idea

Have a perpetually curious kid? I recommend handing them books in the Eureka! Series. Available in both hardcover and paperback, this award-winning STEAM nonfiction series for kids ages 4-8 (grades PreK – 3) focuses on one groundbreaking, world-changing discovery that millions of people use every day. Young readers can learn about topics such as fireworks, wind power, video games, and more.  The books are essentially a “biography of an idea” – educational but also super fun to read.

DOLLARS TO DOUGHNUTS

I don’t know about you, but I wish I read books about financial literacy in my younger days! Financial literacy is essential knowledge for everyone, and the new Dollars to Doughnuts series seeks to teach kids ages 6-9 (grades 1 – 4) the ins and outs of managing their money. From budgeting to spending, from credit cards to gift cards, these books tackle and explain big financial topics for kids by taking the mystery out of money matters.  School Library Journal calls this series “informative without being preachy”. I agree – these books are ideal for kids who want to have financial independence, but need to learn a bit more about their money first.

FOLLOW MY FOOD

The Follow My Food series for kids ages 2-5 (grades PreK-K) are wonderfully graphic hardcover picture books that reveal to young readers where their food comes from. There are four books now available, each focusing on a different food – milk, eggs, honey, and fruit – and the bright, colorful illustrations are just the right choice for PreK and early elementary learners. With fun titles like MILLY COW GIVES MILK and GRANNY ROOT GROWS FRUIT, these books will become a staple in your home or classroom and will educate and entertain at the same time.  Plus, they look really great on a bookshelf!

PIZZA, PICKLES, AND APPLE PIE & CHECKUP, SHOTS, AND ROBOTS

Did you know that Kane Press creator David Rickert is also an educator? And no, he’s not an elementary school teacher or art teacher—he actually teaches high school English. But David loves to draw. So that’s where his inspiration for his titles PIZZA, PICKLES, AND APPLE PIE and the upcoming CHECKUPS, SHOTS, AND ROBOTS (available November 2024) comes from. These graphic format nonfiction books are the perfect mix of fun and educational, and they also include lots of projects and activities for the classroom and at home. So, for the student who asks “Why do I have to get a checkup?”, hand them CHECKUPS, SHOTS AND ROBOTS .  And for the student who wonders, “Where does pizza come from?”, hand them PIZZA, PICKLES AND APPLE PIE. Both books are terrific choices for kids ages 8-12 (grades 3-7).

How did a pizza become a pizza? Is a pickle really a cucumber in disguise? Explore fascinating food history, nutrition, and American culture through this middle-grade graphic-format nonfiction book for kids that answers oft-asked questions about the foods we love, explaining how they came to be.
