Aranya Jain is an editor who joins us from Putnam, Penguin Random House. Aranya has edited multiple #1 New York Times-bestselling authors, including David Ellis and the Clive Cussler franchise, as well as Bram Stoker long-lister Josh Winning and authors Kia Abdullah, Jennifer Herrera, Rachel Eve Moulton, and Hiyoko Kurisu.
After growing up in London with Indian parents and frequent trips to Delhi, Aranya attended Princeton, graduated cum laude in English, worked on the trading floor at Goldman Sachs, did an MFA in Fiction at Columbia, then spent two years writing a fantasy novel and tutoring the ACT/SAT before joining Penguin Random House in 2021.
She has been a long-time devotee of DAW’s list, and went to stand outside Betsy Wollheim’s office on her first day at Penguin.
Aranya will be searching for all kinds of speculative fiction — sci fi, fantasy, horror, weird fiction, genre-bending fiction, historical speculative fiction, literary speculative fiction, and magical realism. She loves anything high-concept and is easily lured by a beguiling voice or an uncanny premise: something that unnerves, inspires whimsy, or expands our curiosity about the scope of the universe.
She can’t wait to meet all of you!
