DAW Acquires The Micah Grey Trilogy by L. R. Lam, Author of DRAGONFALL

In a land of lost wonders, the past is stirring once more.

In a three-book deal, Aranya Jain at DAW Books has acquired the Micah Grey trilogy by L.R. Lam, author of DRAGONFALL and the forthcoming EMBERCLAW, for publication in 2025.

This gaslamp, neo-Victoriana fantasy trilogy is about an intersex debutante, who escapes to the circus after gaining unwanted magical abilities from a long-forgotten technological age. Each novel is rich, atmospheric, and entirely charming.

Previously only published in the UK and before L.R. Lam’s wild success with DRAGONFALL, these will be the first US editions, complete with an updated package. Hodderscape will publish these new editions in the UK.

Of the acquisition, L. R. Lam says, “I’m so grateful to DAW and Hodderscape that, more than a decade after first releasing Micah Grey, I can not only re-release this trilogy but also take a moment to edit it to better reflect my current writing style and better understanding of myself. I’m so excited that more readers will enter the big top of the Circus of Magic and the stage of the Kymri Theatre and that Micah will have another chance to fly.”

The first book, PANTOMIME will be out next Fall (Sept 2025) with SHADOWPLAY and MASQUERADE to follow in the same season so readers can get lost in the magic of Micah’s tale while only having to wait a month between books.

PRAISE FOR THE MICAH GREY TRILOGY:

Pantomime by Laura Lam took me to an exotic and detailed world, peopled by characters that I’d love to be friends with . . . and some I’d never want to cross paths with.”  – Robin Hobb, New York Times-bestselling author of Fool’s Assassin

Pantomime is a fantastical, richly drawn, poignant take on a classic coming-of-age story . . . a vibrant tale told with surety and grace.”  – Leigh Bardugo, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Ninth House and the creator of the Grishaverse

“Set in a vividly imagined world . . . Pantomime is a fable- like story as beautifully unique as its main character.”  – Malinda Lo, New York Times bestselling author of Last Night at the Telegraph Club

“A lyrical, stunningly written debut novel, which set my heart racing with every lift of the trapeze. In Micah we have one of the most original – and likeable – protagonists I’ve read in a long time. An author to watch, without a doubt.”  – Amy McCulloch, author of The Potion Diaries

“Welcome to a world of shills and showmen, fading tech and circus freaks, where nothing and no-one is what it appears. An absorbing, accomplished debut.”  – Elspeth Cooper, author of The Wild Earth Quartet
