Aranya Jain, Editor at DAW Books, has acquired North American rights to Christopher Ruocchio’s three-book epic fantasy trilogy, The Doomsong Saga, which begins with The Godstained House, from Shawna McCarthy at The McCarthy Agency.
Ruocchio is the internationally award-winning author of the Sun Eater series, the galaxy-spanning seven-book saga chronicling the tale of the infamous criminal and war hero Hadrian Marlowe, which began with Empire of Silence. Merging the best of science fiction and epic fantasy, the Sun Eater series is considered a modern classic alongside the works of Pierce Brown, James S. A. Corey, and James Islington.
“I could not be more excited by Christopher’s first foray into high fantasy. The way he thinks about his legacy within the context of literature spanning back to the Middle Ages is astounding, and I’m ceaselessly amazed by his simultaneous mastery of epic plot, intimate feeling, and gorgeous prose. He brings a rare literary sensibility to pace-driven, fantastical storytelling. This trilogy is not to be missed.” – Aranya Jain
The series follows a royal family that has been generationally cursed, the prince and princess who must avenge their father’s murder at the hands of their mother, and the inescapable wrath of ancient furies. It is set in a darkly pagan world based on the Mediterranean of the late Bronze Age.
“I am thrilled to be returning to DAW for this next hero’s journey. The whole team has been so supportive, and I’m eager to begin work with my new editor, Aranya Jain,” says Ruocchio. “Aranya and I worked together on Shadows Upon Time, but The Godstained House will be the first time I truly face Aranya’s red ink! The Sun Eater’s success has been a great blessing, and I’ve been grateful to work with DAW on it—and now on Doomsong! I am also very excited to be working with Jaime Jones, who will be doing the art for the series. Jaime is such a genius, and it is a privilege to work together with him on this newest adventure.”
