In my house, we’re loyal Jeopardy! watchers. Every evening at 7 p.m., you’ll find my family glued to the TV, testing our trivia skills. I have to admit—I usually do pretty well. My secret? I read a lot of nonfiction, especially the incredible titles published by our own Calkins Creek and Astra Young Readers imprints.
Just the other night, the Final Jeopardy! question was about Lady of the Lines—one of our very own recently published books.

Not every contestant got the correct answer. But I did! It was such a thrill to see this clue and to realize how much fascinating knowledge I’ve absorbed simply by reading nonfiction.
So why read more nonfiction? Because it opens your mind in countless ways. Every book offers the chance to explore real stories, remarkable people, and discoveries that shape our world. From history-makers to hidden heroes, the nonfiction books from Calkins Creek and Astra Young Readers are filled with stories that educate, inspire, and spark curiosity.
This Nonfiction November, celebrate by picking up a true story that captures your imagination—you never know when it might help you see the world in a new light (and maybe even ace a Jeopardy! question or two).—Kerry McManus, Marketing Director
